Come
honor Mom for Mother's Day at Grassy Creek Vineyard & Winery! This coming
Saturday, May 8, we are proud to host Eva Miller, the Master
Gardener at Floreana Garden Design and the Potting Shed, to
conduct demonstrations of potting techniques and flower and
plant arrangements! In keeping with the Mother Nature theme,
the demonstrations will be conducted outdoors under our new
pavilion overlooking the vineyards.
The FREE gardening
demonstrations are scheduled for 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and
4:30 p.m. During the day our award-winning wines will be available
for tasting ($5.00 per person), light appetizers
available for noshing, and our Red Barn Tasting Room open for
shopping (hint, hint - some great gifts and wine for Mom!).

Nira, Antarctic Explorer
On October 7, 1933, in preparing for an
exploration of Antarctica, Admiral Richard E. Byrd asked for three
Guernsey cows to go on the voyage in order that the crew might have
fresh milk. The ship set sail for Norfolk, Virginia, on October 11,
1933, to pick up coal and its other distinguished passenger, Nira Pola, another Guernsey cow from Klondike Farms in Elkin, North Carolina. Nira Pola was with calf, and Admiral Byrd thought it would be a novelty if a calf was born on the ice.

Games are on for June 19, 2010! Skeet shooting, pool tournament,
longest drive contest, horse shoes, ping pong, and much more are scheduled
for our second annual Summer Games. Nothing says summer like sweat,
fun, wine, food, and music - not to mention a first place award from
